Dell Finally Recalls My Inspiron “Crap-Top”
For about 8 months now, I have had so many problems with my Dell Inspiron 1100 it wasn’t funny. Sometimes it got very very slow, it was always scorching hot, and occasionally it shut itself off from overheating if left unattended. It’s also been a piece of crap … in the year and half I have had it, the casing is cracked and the keys are beginning to see wear and tear, some hardly working. And despite a 512mb memory upgrade, it’s still slow as snot and chokes on video.
Anyhow, I wasn’t surprised today to see that Dell is
issuing a recall for laptops, and my model is included in the recall.
About time.
The Sydney Morning Herald also has a few interesting words on this.

Totally agree with your comment on Dell. My poor 65-year old mother bought a Dell laptop from Dell UK 6 months ago. It’s been a constant hassle ever since:
- it took a ridiculous 2 months to deliver the laptop
- on reciept laptop didn’t work…reboot, blue-screen, frozen apps
you name it
- another 2 months with Dell to find out windows installation
is corrupted. Dell sent wrong re-installation CD’s after another
3 weeks wait.
and probably worst of all…
- 20 or more calls to Dell and the issue still hasn’t been resolved.
The case has been “escalated” to 5 different managers none
of which have resolved this issue. Dell won’t replace the
brand-new, useless laptop after 6 months of issues.
Wondering if anyone has a good recommendation for how to “officially” complain about Dell service? Seems their customer service has deteriorated to all-time low.

Indeed. My parents recently got a new desktop to them, which had a lot of issues out of the box (Internet Explorer would not even work). The hard drive began to get so loud it was unbearable and they had to send it in and get it replaced.
Used to be such a good brand in the past, but with all the bad experience my family, friends, and myself have had, I doubt I will ever buy from them again.
